For a while we had missing hens...our original yard flock of Silver Spangled Hambergs was 3 hens and 2 roosters...then we just had 2 roosters, then 2 roosters and one hen, then found a dead hen (must have been a dog, wild animals actually eat them), then all of a sudden, the 3rd hen shows up! With 6 peeps! Wish her luck :) Of course, the last time we had this happen, there were 10 peeps, and 7 ended up being roosters...obviously the more females the better. All 7 roosters would roost in a magnolia tree right outside our house and start crowing every morning around 4:30...soon, Luke took out an add in the market bulletin that read, "free roosters, you catch"...that was by far some of the most fun we have had around here...watching people show up with their plan for catching a rooster, only to watch them chase roosters round and round the yard and finally give up. One kid showed up about 5 times before he finally caught one. Eventually, Luke climbed the magnolia while they were roosting and caught them, put them in a pen, and let people catch them from there. All's well that ends well.

Yet another reason why I love the Moores so much!
