So, Norine decided we should try to make our own peppermint bark once she sampled some store bought ones at Granny's...and what we found/experimented with was super easy and turned out great! Here it is:
And here's what we did:
First we melted 1 pound of semi-sweet chocolate chips (my friend, Mo, will be so proud...we actually weighed them!), then spread them onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. We put that into the refrigerator to harden while we melted 1 pound of white chocolate. While the white chocolate was melting, we used a hammer to make peppermint pieces out of candy canes (to make 1/2 cup we used about 6 candy canes)...oh, and don't forget to put the candy canes in a ziploc before hammering...and you'll want to be extremely careful if you're hammering on tile or granite. The peppermint pieces were stirred into the melted white chocolate, then it was spread on top of the hardened semisweet sheet from the fridge. The entire thing was returned to the refrigerator...and after about an hour it was ready to break into shards. Ours is stored in the refrigerator in a container with a lid...which keeps it from melting, and keeps us from eating it too fast!
Ooooh. Lovely! Go Norine!
